Partner up. Outsmart them. Take every trick.
TGL Euchre is a free, no-install, browser-based take on the classic Midwestern American partnership card game. You sit at the South seat. North is your partner. East and West are deterministic AI opponents. Each hand, one suit becomes trump; the Jacks of trump and same-color suit (the "right" and "left" bowers) become the two highest cards in the deck. Win 5 tricks per hand, score points, first team to 10 wins one game, and your run is up to 5 games.
Why Euchre is interesting
Work Together
You and North against East and West. Communicate via the cards you lead — partner-trump signals, second-hand-low, third-hand-high. Coordination matters.
Strategy Wins
Use trump wisely. Lead smart. Read the up-card. Decide when to call alone and when to ride your partner's bid. The deck is small enough that every card counts.
First To 10 Wins
Be the first team to reach 10 points across as many hands as it takes. Marches and alone payouts are how you sprint; defending against a euchre is how you stall.
Classic Game
The timeless game of Euchre, dialed for a browser. Same rules grandma plays at the kitchen table.
Bidding (how trump is chosen)
After the deal, the up-card's suit is offered as trump in two rounds:
- Round 1 — "Order it up": each player in turn (starting at the dealer's left) passes or orders up the up-card's suit. If anyone orders, the up-card's suit is trump and the dealer picks up the up-card and discards one. The orderer (caller) and their partner are now on the line for at least 3 tricks.
- Round 2 — "Call any other suit": if all four pass round 1, the up-card flips down and players go again, but now each can call any suit except the rejected one.
- All-pass round 2: redeal (no "stick the dealer" in this version).
The caller may declare alone at bid time. Their partner sits out the entire hand — partner's hand is set face-down. The lone caller plays 3-vs-1 against both opponents for a higher payout (or a bigger hit if they fail).
Trump and bowers, in order
If ♠ is trump, the trump ranking, high → low, is:
Off-suit cards rank naturally A, K, Q, J, 10, 9 — except the J that became the left bower is no longer in its original suit; it's trump for the rest of the hand. Color pairs (for left-bower lookup): ♠ ↔ ♣ and ♥ ↔ ♦.
Play
Leader (dealer's left at trick 1, then trick winner) plays any card. Each player after must follow suit (the suit of the led card) if they have one. If they can't, they may play any card, including trumping in. Highest trump wins; if no trump was played, highest of the led suit wins. Trick winner leads the next trick. After 5 tricks the hand is scored.
Scoring per hand
| Caller's tricks | Alone | Points to |
|---|---|---|
| 5 (march) | no | 2 to caller's team |
| 5 (march) | yes | 4 to caller's team |
| 3 or 4 | (any) | 1 to caller's team |
| 0, 1 or 2 | (any) | 2 to defenders ("euchre") |

No luck — just skill & strategy
Mulberry32 PRNG, bit-identical between the JS client and the
PHP validator, drives the shuffle and every AI decision.
Replay validator rebuilds the hand-by-hand state from
seed + player_actions + ai_version and rejects
any run whose score doesn't match the simulator's
recomputation. The AI version is recorded on the run so old
replays still validate after AI tuning.
